Tickets for The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond that were purchased during the day were returned, and the film has yet to be released, according to lawyers for the petitioners who protested the showing.
Advocate Maitreyi Sachidananda Hegde, who represents one of the petitioners, Sreedev Namboodiri, told PTI in the afternoon that she will not file a contempt petition against the film’s producer because the film has not yet been launched and ticket purchases are being returned.
Ms. Hegde stated in the morning before Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas that, despite a stay on the film’s distribution, ticket sales were still taking place.
She addressed it to the Single Judge while the question of the movie’s release was before a Division Bench, which reserved an order on Thursday following a late-night session.
She reportedly assured Justice Thomas that she would check to see if the film was being exhibited in theaters throughout the day and then file a contempt plea.
In the afternoon, Ms. Hegde stated that upon investigation, she discovered that “the film has not been released and the ticket amounts were being refunded.” she said “So, I will not be moving a contempt petition.“
On Thursday, Justice Thomas halted the film’s distribution for 15 days, stating that the censor board, CBFC, had manifestly failed to apply its mind to the requirements of the law.
The judge also stated that “the possibility of communal disharmony or denigration of a community also being prima facie involved in the movie,” and that its release without examination by higher authorities would be legally unlawful.
