Tamil cinema superstar Suriya recently opened up about his family’s relocation to Mumbai, sharing that he finds far more happiness and comfort in his 1,700 sq ft Mumbai apartment than in the sprawling luxury bungalow he owns in Chennai.
During the pandemic, Suriya and his wife, actor Jyotika, moved to Mumbai with their two children, Diya and Dev. The shift was primarily intended to bring Jyotika closer to her parents and to facilitate her return to Bollywood.
In a recent promotional interview for his upcoming film Vishwanath & Sons, Suriya shed light on how much he enjoys the change of pace. “Mumbai is almost like a holiday for me. I work in Chennai, then I go for a holiday there,” the actor explained.
Contrasting his current living situation with his grand Chennai residence, Suriya expressed his fondness for their smaller, cozier setup. “It’s a smaller house. We stay in a 1700 sq ft house. So, two steps bedroom, two steps living room, two steps kitchen, two steps dining area. It’s a nice, cosy house, which gives us a lot of comfort. A lot of memories, a lot of warmth. It’s a lot of love everywhere. I can immediately call Diya or Dev; there’s just one step away. Not many people know what we do there, so it’s nice,” he shared.
His Vishwanath & Sons co-star, veteran actress Radhika Sarathkumar, chimed in during the conversation, revealing that Suriya enjoys the everyday domestic life in Mumbai. “First thing he does is, where’s my dhobi, where’s the guy with my ironing, where’s my shoes? He’ll go make coffee… he will do everything. I watched him when I went there. I feel he’s very content there.” she said.

Radhika also noted that Jyotika’s immense happiness in her hometown naturally overflows into their family life, bringing joy to Suriya as well. Addressing the relocation, Suriya gently pointed out, “She has not gone to Russia or Japan. She has gone to her mother’s place. The main priority was, of course, for her parents. But also, work is happening there simultaneously.“
