Popular content creator and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, famously known as BeerBiceps, has sparked a conversation by claiming that digital content creators make significantly more money than the vast majority of Bollywood actors.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Allahbadia challenged the common perception that the film industry is the ultimate goldmine.
“People assume the film industry pays better than content creation. It’s usually the opposite, only maybe thirty people at the very top of Bollywood make real money, while content creation has room for thousands of people to build something sustainable, most of them without ever becoming famous the way an actor has to.“ — Ranveer Allahbadia

The High Stakes and Risks of Content Creation
While the financial upside can be massive, Allahbadia’s own journey highlights the severe risks of the profession. In 2025, Ranveer and three other creators were “cancelled” following a controversial joke made on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent. The incident resulted in FIRs, a drastic loss of work, and heavy blows to their reputations.
While Ranveer bounced back with a rebranded The Ranveer Show and Samay Raina successfully launched his stand-up special Still Alive, others faced a harder time. Apoorva Makhija (The Rebel Kid), who appeared on Prime Video’s The Traitors last year, has since relocated to New York City to pursue an MBA.
Speaking on the podcast Untriggered with AminJaz, Apoorva confessed the toll the backlash took on her: “I’m honestly really tired of getting cancelled now. It’s not fun anymore… I have no moral compass. So, when I get cancelled, I’m like, ‘Oops! I had no idea.'”
Industry Veterans Echo the Claim
Allahbadia’s assertions aren’t just empty claims; prominent Bollywood personalities have backed up the financial realities of content creation. Filmmaker Farah Khan, the director behind massive hits like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, revealed on the podcast All About Her that her earnings as a YouTuber in a single year surpassed what she made directing blockbusters.
She noted that her content creation income will actually help fund her three children’s higher education overseas. Similarly, actors Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi—who run a popular family YouTube channel with over 1 million subscribers alongside their sons—agreed with the sentiment.
In a previous interview, Parmeet claimed that if they transitioned to YouTube as a full-time career, it would pay them “at least three times more than what films and television together pay us.”
